Your Intake Form Has Been Received

Home  /  Your Intake Form Has Been Received

Thank you for sending us your information. A member of our team will review it before your consultation. If we need clarification or additional details, we will contact you.

You do not need to have every document or every answer ready right now. The information below will help you prepare and understand what to expect.

Important: If you have an upcoming court date, hearing, filing deadline, or other urgent concern that you have not already shared with us, please call (614) 228-4200 as soon as possible.

What happens next

  1. Our team reviews the intake information you submitted.
  2. We will contact you if we need clarification before the consultation.
  3. At the consultation, we will discuss your situation, your options, and practical next steps.

Before the consultation

What documents should I gather?

You do not need to send us a large volume of material for the initial consultation. Focus on documents that are especially important to your situation, such as:

  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements
  • Court papers, pleadings, or notices you have received
  • Existing written agreements or orders
  • Other documents you believe are directly relevant to the questions you want to discuss

You may bring printed copies to the consultation. If you have been given access to our Client Portal, you may also upload electronic copies there before the meeting.

What if I do not have everything?

That is okay. During the consultation, we will discuss what additional information or documents may be useful later.

Can someone attend with me?

Please let us know before the meeting if you need a friend, family member, interpreter, or other support person to attend. The presence of another person can affect confidentiality and attorney-client privilege, so we may need to discuss the best way to handle it.

For a consultation involving divorce or dissolution, your spouse or the other party should not attend, even if you hope to reach an amicable agreement. Ethical rules generally prevent us from consulting with or representing both sides.

Please arrange childcare and do not bring a child to the consultation.

During the consultation

How long will it last?

We generally schedule consultations for about one hour. Depending on the circumstances, the meeting may run a little longer.

What will we discuss?

We will talk through your situation, the legal issues involved, and the goals or concerns that matter most to you. We will do our best to give you a candid assessment of potential strengths, challenges, options, and next steps.

You do not need to know exactly what you want to do, and you do not need to have every answer. The purpose of the consultation is to help you understand your choices and make more informed decisions.

Costs and hiring

How much will representation cost?

Every family law matter is different. The total cost can vary based on the issues involved, the level of conflict, the amount of information that must be reviewed, and whether the matter can be resolved by agreement or requires litigation.

If you are considering moving forward after the consultation, we will explain our fee arrangement, any initial retainer, and what may affect the overall cost.

Do I need to decide immediately?

No. We will give you our recommendations, but the decision about whether and when to hire us is yours. If a deadline or urgent circumstance affects the timing, we will discuss that with you.

What happens if I decide to hire the firm?

Completing an intake form or attending a consultation does not, by itself, create an attorney-client relationship. Before we can begin work, the firm must agree in writing to represent you, and you must complete the requirements stated in the written engagement agreement, which may include payment of an initial retainer.

Practical details

Where should I park?

Our office has free parking in the lot behind the building at 4400 N. High St., Suite 415, Columbus, Ohio 43214. The lot has entrances from East Henderson Road and East Schreyer Place.
